On page 27 in the line void congratulateStudent(char *student, char *course, int numDays) why are there * at the beginning of each char name?

char student means the type of the variable named student is a char; whereas char * student means the type of the variable is a pointer to (or address of) a char.

Not sure of any good web based C and Objective C tutorials, but I can recommend two books:

If you are just embarking on your adventures in the world of computing, it would be a good, long-term investment to read those books first.

For what its worth I stumbled across a site called thenewboston.org that had some great beginner videos that has really helped me get some of the basics.
