Where do these functions come from?

#1

Where does one find the information on these functions to even use them or know they exist?
time()
localtime_r()

or struct tm…

#2

The documentation is in the man pages. Go to the terminal and type:

man 3 time

#3

That command doesn’t work. Returns…

Development001773:~ savAdmin$ man 3 time
No entry for time in section 3 of the manual

I tried it on another computer and works fine so just need to figure out why that is…

Thanks,

Hmm. Interesting.

Did both computers have Xcode installed? (Maybe the Xcode install also installs the extra man pages…)

#5

Yes, in fact the mac that won’t display the man page for time() is a new mac pro running OS 10.7.4 and I have installed Xcode 4.3.2. This install came from the app store. Got to say I had no control over what it installed or where it installed it. Been looking between the two macs but can’t seem to find a difference between them yet other than the mac that works is running Xcode 3.2.6 and OS 10.6… There is an Xcode update available for version 4.3.3 that I haven’t yet applied. I’ll probably apply that today and see if that helps…

#6

In Xcode Preferences… Downloads > Components, I had to install Command Line Tools. The manuals were then available in Terminal app.

Ah! Thanks for posting that – I wouldn’t have known.
