I’m not sure if it’s something changed in Xcode 9-10 but the launch screen is just pure black. I opened the Solution folder and still the same result. Then, I went and set something up (a big “Hello world” label) in the LaunchScreen.storyboard, ran it and it worked.

Basically, you can’t use the storyboard that was set as the Main Interface or if the storyboard is dynamic. Xcode will still let you set whatever you want but it won’t build or take effect if the build succeeds.
