I’m a new iOS programmer and currently reading iOS Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide (3rd Edition). I’m on Chapter 15 of 30 total chapters.

Should I finish reading and executing the code in the book with Xcode Version 4.6.3 or upgrade to Xcode 5 with iOS 7?

Are there any tips on when it’s a good time to upgrade your Xcode and SDK without causing many issues with the PRODUCTION version of your app?
If your a experienced programmer are there some to helpful ways and resources you use to quickly get yourself and app prepared the next release? I am currently watching some of the WWDC Session Videos.
