Cannot find file res/layout/activity_main.xml

This file is not listed at all in Project tree of files

Can you share a screenshot of what you see in the Project view? That might help us identify the problem.

Here’s how mine looks. I can’t find the activity_main.xml either.

Ah it looks like you created a project with a different template than the book does. Try creating a new project with the “Empty Views Activity” template.
